River from bridge

About the club

Founded in 1899, Cambridge ’99 Rowing Club is located opposite Midsummer Common, close to the city centre. The boathouse sits alongside various town and college boat clubs stretched along the river. It’s just a stone’s throw away from the famous Cambridge University Goldie Boathouse.

We compete all year round at events of all sizes, including top class races like Henley Royal, Henley Women’s, the British Rowing Championships and the various Tideway heads. We have reached the semi-finals of the Wyfold and Silver Goblets Challenge Cups at Henley Royal, won the Jackson Trophy at Tideway, been club champions at the British Rowing Championships and reached the semi-final of Henley Women’s.

Each year we run two regattas, a local town regatta in spring and a larger regatta in autumn.

Our rowing membership operates in squads. Large men’s and women’s squads are used for more experienced rowers. Beginners are usually coached in a mixed group.

The club is fortunate to have one of the best boathouses on the Cam. The boat bays house several Eights, Fours/Quads, Pairs/Doubles and single sculls, a tub and two sculling playboats. A multigym is also on the ground floor. Free weights, a stretching area and eight ergometers are in the large, well lit and well ventilated training room on the first floor, along with changing rooms, toilets and showers. The club room has a well stocked bar, plenty of comfy sofas, a big TV and great views across the river to Midsummer Common.

The boathouse is normally open for rowing and land training each weekday evening, as well as weekend mornings. Visits from prospective members are always welcome. It is always best to make contact with one of the captains before visiting and they will be more than happy to show you around the boathouse.
