About the club

The club was formed in 1899 so it's more than 106 years old. We compete all year round at minor events as well as the country's top class Regattas such as Henley Royal, Henley Women's , the National Championships and we race The Tideway Heads.

In recent years we have reached the semi-finals of the Wyfold and Silver Goblets Challenge Cups at Henley Royal, won the Jackson Trophy at Tideway, been club champions at the National Championships and reached the semi-final of Henley Women's. Our women are currently holders of the headship in the CRA Town Bumps and our men are second.

The rowing club has about 100 rowing members covering all statuses. The Cambridge '99 Club Limited, which owns the boathouse, boats and all equipment, has a membership of about 400. The club headquarters are at Kimberley Road, Cambridge, CB4 1HJ - telephone +44(0)1 223 367 521. You can find a map on the Contacts page.

Joining as Rowing Club member requires payment of a one-off joining fee of £25 and thereafter monthly subscriptions are payable by standing order. We require all club rowers to be members of the Amateur Rowing Association - annual adult (senior) membership is currently £42. "Company" membership is available to those who wish to attend social events, receive newsletters and so on, but do not want to row.

The boathouse is normally open for rowing and land training each weekday evening, as well as most of the day on Saturday and Sunday. The clubroom has a well stocked bar, plenty of comfy sofas and a television. Prospective members are welcome to visit at any time when the club is open, though it is best to come along on Monday to Thursday from about 6.30pm or during weekend mornings.

It is always best to make prior contact with one of the captains before visiting and they will be more than happy to show you around the boathouse.

The club provides seven eights, eight fours, five pairs and numerous single sculls, a tub and two playboats. Within the boathouse there are free weights, a multigym and nine ergometers. Separate access is required to use the multi-gym and weights are normally available after instruction on their use.

The rowing club is affiliated to the Amateur Rowing Association, the Eastern Rowing Council and the Cambridgeshire Rowing Association.

All activities comply with the ARA Water Safety Code and therefore all prospective members must be able to prove their ability to swim. Personal insurance is the responsibility of the member or guardian; Company property and third party insurance is carried out by the Company but could be invalidated by misuse. All use of equipment and entries to events are at the discretion of the Club Captain.

Coaching and supervision is undertaken to a responsible club standard - we have several ARA-qualified coaches available.

Families and friends are always welcome to join as Company members for which the annual subscription is £25 . Life membership of the Company is also available - call us for details.
